The right HS code decides the duty your customs authority charges and which rules apply to the goods. The first six digits are international; India and most importing countries add further digits of their own. This guide lists the codes that usually apply to natural menthol and mint products from India, and the documents that go with a shipment.

Always confirm the final code with your customs broker. Classification depends on the exact product and on each country’s tariff.

Preferential origin

India’s trade agreements can cut import duty for your shipment if a preferential certificate of origin is issued. For example, the India–EFTA agreement has applied since 1 October 2025 and the India–UK agreement since 15 July 2026. The EU–India agreement was concluded in January 2026 but is not yet in force. Tell us your destination and we will check which certificate applies.

Dangerous goods

L-menthol is not regulated as dangerous goods for road, sea or air. Some mint oils are classed as environmentally hazardous (UN 3082, Class 9) for sea transport. The classification follows the SDS for each product and lot, and we declare it on the shipping documents where it applies.
